Pictured above and below is a plastic 1/72nd (20mm) gun and crew
from the Revell 30 Years War Imperial Artillery set. The figures were undercoated with black and drybrushed white,
then painted (acrylics were used throughout). It is based for DBR on matte board with foam flocking.
Above and Below: Revell's plastic 1/72nd 30 Years War Swedish Cavalry.
These are painted to be generic figures that can be used in just about
any Western European army of the period (although the red plumes do give them sort of an Imperialist look). The top figures
wear buff coats while the ones below are clad in 3/4 metal armor. It was nice of Revell to put different types of cavalry
in the same box so that even though they are called "Swedish"on the box, they can be used for Imperialists as well.
The next three pictures below are representatives of different infantry
units, and like the cavalry, they are meant to be more or less generic, with the possible exception of the unit dressed in
yellow which is based on a Swedish regiment. The figures in the broad-brimmed hats are the Swedish Infantry, while the ones
in the helmets are from the Imperialist infantry set. Once again, the figures can be used for a number of different Western
European armies of the period. They could also be used for English Civil War soldiers from the early period of that conflict.
One of these days I'll get around to painting the command figures for these units. If I'm clever enough, all I need need to
do is fashion some flags that can be changed as needed to represent this or that army.
All of Revell's 30 YW figures have been out of production for a while,
but they can still be found on occasion. The artillery set was one of the most interesting sets of plastic miniatures ever
made and is much sought after by gamers and collectors alike. There are rumors that Revell may do a limited reissue of all
the sets.
