Consequences of Sin:  From Genesis 3
Shame

"They realized they were naked, so they sewed fig leaves together and made something to cover themselves."  Genesis 3:7 NCV

Fear

"Then they heard the Lord God walking in the garden. . . and the man and his wife hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden."  Genesis 3:8 NCV

Blame

The man blamed his wife and God, the woman blamed the serpent.  Genesis 3:12-13

Separation from God

"So the Lord God forced the man out of the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken."  Genesis 3:23 NCV

Genesis 3:

Adam and Eve sin and fall from innocence.  The age of innocence ends.  We do not know how long this age lasted.  The devil deceived Eve, with Adam sitting there watching, and Eve and then Adam ate the forbidden fruit.

And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.” 1 Timothy 2:13-14-NIV)

One of Adam's primary jobs was to protect Eve and exercise his dominion, given to him by God, but he failed miserably in this.

Look closely at the questions the devil (serpent) asks Eve.  The devil is smart, but surely not wise, but was created by God before the earth.  Eve was no match for him.  Eve was deceived by satan because she thought God was holding out on her; not giving her all there was that she could have.

Study Questions:

Why did God allow this to happen?   What were the questions satan asked Eve?  Why was he able to deceive her? God had a close relationship with both Adam and Eve but there is no evidence in the Word that He warned them.

Illegal drugs are like the forbidden fruit.  They may look good and seem to promise something you desire.  But they are a deceit, satan’s candy to be used to deceive you.  They are never an answer to anything.

God gave us free will not wanting robots but true human beings who choose to love Him.  Being tested is different from being tempted.  The Word states God will never tempt us.  He will, however, test us.  In the Gospel of John 10:10, Jesus stated:  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”  Jesus then tells us He came so that we might have life to the full.

Then there is the first blame game (marital issues) played out in the Garden.  Adam blames Eve, and even blamed God, for giving him ‘that woman.’ Eve blamed the serpent.  The devil was cursed forever.  Neither took responsibility, nor repents (turns back towards God), and their sin separates them from God. God forces them from the Garden.  Sin is always those things and behaviors or actions that separate us from God.  God says:  “I—yes, I alone—am the one who blots out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.”  Isaiah 43:25 NLT) We can’t get rid of sin by ourselves, we need a Savior.

Speaking to the devil, God said:

"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."  Genesis 3:15 KJV

Jesus is first promised, as the 'seed' of the woman, who will crush the head of the serpent (satan), while satan will strike his heal.  This is detailed in Genesis 3:15 (KJV).  The women’s offspring will be the ‘promised seed’ e.g., Christ who will crush the devil’s head while the devil (serpent) strikes his heel (i.e., the crucifixion). In the New Testament, Paul explains this:   “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman,” Galatians 4:4 (NIV) ‘Enmity’ is spiritual warfare between the devil with his offspring and Eve’s eventual offspring throughout time.  God does not question the serpent.  God merely pronounces his judgment.  Crushed’ means defeated and destroyed forever.

God had given Adam dominion over the Earth.  At the fall, satan took dominion of the Earth from Adam and held dominion until Jesus rose from the dead.

Physical death followed their spiritual death caused by their sin. We know people are made up of flesh, soul and spirit. Paul speak of this subject here:

"Once you were dead, doomed forever because of your many sins. You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passions and desires of our evil nature. We were born with an evil nature, and we were under God’s anger just like everyone else."

"But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so very much, that even while we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead."  Eph 2:1-5 NLT

Prophecy in Genesis-Gen 3:14-19

1.  Satan is cursed forever, his head will be crushed.
2.  There will be conflict between the seed of the woman & satan's seed, between good and evil.
3.  Women will suffer in child birth.
4.  Men will toil to feed themselves and their families.
5.  There will be blame and conflict between men and women; women will have to submit to their husbands.
6.  All people will suffer physical death.
7.. Jesus is predicted and that He will suffer (strike or bruise his heel.)

Commentary

If God didn't create us, life has no meaning.  We are then merely cosmic accidents that live, breath, and walk around till we die.  And there is no such thing as right or wrong because the whole basis for these concepts comes from our Creator God.  But evolution is merely a theory of science that has been elevated to a position it does not deserve.  It has a liberal political agenda formulated by secular humanists who don't know God.   It is junk science  based upon faulty assumptions that leave too many questions unanswered.

The universe is amazingly constructed, intricate, detailed, beautiful and awesome.  Could random forces create a humming bird?  The Genesis account truly explains the beginnings of the universe and is consistent with discoveries by true scientists.  Creationism has nothing to fear from science that is seeking to find the truth.

I have some links to creationism sites listed below.  Dr. Hugh Ross, a scientist, is a good place to start.  He sees no conflict between science and scripture.

Why does God allow evil to exist?

Jesus explains the continued existence of evil in the parable of the weeds.  Click below to read it.

Commentary:

“We behave like Eve when we conveniently forget the love behind God’s rules, and view his rules as a way to prevent us from experiencing something that we think we want or need.”  (Miller & Richards, "Women of the Bible," p. 11)

Genesis tells us that men and women are different from the beginning.  Adam is created outside the Garden in the wild, while Eve is created inside the Garden where it is neat, orderly and safe.  For more about how this effects us, read John Eldridge’s “Wild at Heart.”  God blesses them and tells them to multiply.  There is no affirming of homosexual unions here.  Homosexuals can only recruit; they can never reproduce.

Here is the beginning of a pattern that will be repeated over and over again throughout the Bible.  We see sin (eating the forbidden fruit), followed by judgment (thrown out of the garden) followed by mercy.  God does not kill them but rather clothes them in skins.  This was the first 'sacrifice for sins."

The bible speaks of that which was present before the creation of the Earth through the prophets Isaiah (below) & Ezekiel 28.  And how satan came to appear in the garden as the serpent when he was cast out of heaven.    In the New Testament, satan is described as the “great fallen angel” and “that old serpent,”  (Rev 12:9-10). He is the lion that devours in 1 Peter 5:8.  Jesus described him best as the “thief” who comes to steal, kill and destroy. John 10:10

So called Evolution is a theory, rather than a fact, and cannot explain the ‘spark of life’ that living creatures possess.  The spark of life comes from God who breathed life into all living beings.  I cannot even conceive, in my mind, that life could spring from any amount of time or any type of natural processes.

“My friend, life is not created at conception.  The sperm and the egg are alive before they ever join.  Conception merely passes the gift of life from parents to a child.”  (Hagee, p. 24)  Life begins at conception.

The Garden was located somewhere in what is now Iraq or Iran.  The Bible speaks of four rivers that defined its boundaries.

Commentary
"What was the place of highest position for man?  It was his status in the Garden of Eden where God and man walked and talked together in the cool of the evening as friends.  That was before sin destroyed this relationship, and God and man were separated.  Repentance is not designed to make you fell bad about yourself.  God offers repentance so you can return to the Garden of Eden and walk and talk with Him as a personal friend.

Repentance is not to shame you, embarrass you, or make you feel inferior or inadequate.  Repentance is designed to get you into the presence of God.  There is no other road.  Repentance is the passport to renewing your relationship with God."  (Dr. John Hagee, "The Seven Secrets," pp. 153-154

Genesis 4

The age of innocence ended and man has became like God knowing both good and evil.  This was followed by the age of conscience which began from their being expelled from the Garden and continued til the time of the flood and Noah's Ark.  Mankind does not have Moses' law as a guide for Moses is in the is to come (future).  But mankind now lived by their conscience, their inner knowledge of right and wrong. (Hagee, p. 59).  We shall study the Word to see how they do.

Out of the garden, Adam and Eve, have their first two children, Cain and Abel. Then the children engage in the first recorded worship service.  The Bible records the outcome:

“Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.”  Genesis 1:2-5 NIV

Both children made a sacrifice to God.  God honors Abel’s offering but rejects Cain’s offering.  Why?  Abel gave the ‘best’ of his flocks, while Cain gave ‘something’ from the work of his hands.  It was not Cain’s best and God wants our best.  Cain’s offering was rejected by God.  Cain became bitterly angry and murdered his brother. God deals with Cain and gives him a warning.  God tells Cain sin is crouching at your door, it desires to have you, but you must master it.”  Genesis 4:7 (NIV).  God knew Cain had murder in his heart.  Mastering his sin was something Cain must have been able to do, since he was directed to 'master his sin' by God.  But he chose not to (master his sin) and murdered his brother.

Cain rebelled, murdered his brother, attempted to conceal his crime, and then lied to God.  When God punished him, Cain only complained about his punishment saying it was more than he could bear.   There was nothing to indicate remorse; his heart was very hard.  God sent Cain to the  Land of Nod , which means, “shaking” or “trembling.”  God’s mark was on him, he was separated from God and the Genesis record gives no evidence there was ever reconciliation.

Hebrews speaks to the faith of Abel:

By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.

Hebrews 11:4 NIV

Our first parents have lost both of their children.  It is impossible to imagine their pain.  But they are comforted with the birth of Seth.  Cain’s line produces the second recorded murder when Lamech, a descendent of Cain killed a “young man” for wounding him.   The promise of Christ (the seed) passed down through the line of Seth.

But the pattern is repeated.  There was Cain's sin, followed by judgment, followed by mercy.  God put his mark on Cain to keep him safe.

Commentary:
Bill Hybels:  "The sexual bond that occurs between a man and a woman in the covenant of marriage--what the Bible refers to as "oneness"--is very much like the intimacy God desires between himself and his people. . .God and sex are connected.  God created sex.  For a man and a woman in the bond of marriage, sex is designed as a good and powerful gift."  ("Woman of the Bible," p. 9)

Verses related to Genesis Chapter three:  regarding satan.

Isaiah 14:12-16 (NLT) “How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ But instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths. Everyone there will stare at you and ask, ‘Can this be the one who shook the earth and the kingdoms of the world?”
